Pisciottano: $70K+ awarded for recycling and waste programs in West Mifflin

(Apr 29, 2022)

WEST MIFFLIN, April 29 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano announced today $71,568 in state grant funding has been awarded to support recycling and leaf-collection programs in the borough. “These funds will make it easier for borough residents to recycle and will help reduce the amount of local waste sent to landfills,” Pisciottano said. “It’s so important that we do everything we can to keep West Mifflin beautiful, and this award directly supports that goal.” The awarded funds are part of $30.5 million in Recycling Development and Implementation grants to nearly 160 county and municipal governments across the state announced this week. Through the grant program, municipalities and counties in Pennsylvania are eligible for up to 90% funding of approved recycling program costs. Municipalities that are designated financially distressed under the Financial Distressed Communities Act are eligible to receive funding for an additional 10% of approved costs. Grants were also awarded based on programs designed to meet current market demands for recyclable goods. (Apr 21, 2022)

PITTSBURGH, April 21 – Improvements including bus stop renovations, safer crosswalks, new rider shelters and more will be made along Route 837 through a grant of $960,000 to the Port Authority of Allegheny County, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today. “This award to the Port Authority is essential for local residents who rely on public transportation,” Pisciottano said. “I’m overjoyed that these funds will drastically improve the experience of our bus riders and create a safer environment for all who travel on this busy road. This was a very competitive grant process and we were fortunate to be the only project in Allegheny County awarded these funds.” Pisciottano emphasized the funded project includes major upgrades to pedestrian crossings and traffic signals at key intersections. This funding is part of a $54.1 million package awarded to 64 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside projects in 34 counties. Over half of the funded projects, including the project to improve Route 837, were funded through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Before the BIL passed, only $18 million was available for TA Set-Aside projects. The TA Set-Aside provides funding for projects and activities defined as transportation alternatives, including on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public Read more

Rep. Pisciottano praises new Path to Pennie program

(Mar 16, 2022)

PITTSBURGH, March 16 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, applauded the new Path to Pennie program – which adds a form on income tax returns for uninsured Pennsylvanians to enroll in affordable health care coverage – announced today by the state Revenue Department and Pennie, the state-based health insurance marketplace. “Uninsured Pennsylvanians will now be able to access health care by simply checking a box when filing their state taxes,” Pisciottano said. “I want to thank my colleague, state Representative Austin Davis, for spearheading this crucial initiative by introducing legislation to create an Easy Enrollment Option , a bill that I was proud to co-sponsor.” The new program creates a simple and straightforward way for tax filers to indicate that they, their spouse, and/or dependents do not have health coverage and are interested in learning more about the services provided by Pennie. Those who indicate they are uninsured and consent to receive information from Pennie will receive an official postal notice from Pennie with instructions on how to apply for coverage in April 2022, during Pennie’s Special Enrollment Period. “Increasing access to high-quality, low-cost health insurance is a top priority for me and my colleagues in the House,” Pisciottano said. “I am very pleased that Pennie, the state Department of Revenue and Governor Wolf were able to work Read more
