DRAVOSBURG, Sept. 21 – Today, Senator Jim Brewster and Representative Nick Pisciottano announced two grants for community projects in their legislative district. The Borough of Dravosburg was awarded $120,000 to fund improvements to the U.S. Steel Ball Fields by the Commonwealth Financing Authority . “I’m happy to see state funds coming back from Harrisburg to support deserving community projects,” said Senator Brewster. “Representative Pisciottano and I both recognize the importance of recreational projects like this to maintaining a good quality of living.” The ballfields are frequented by many families in the region for games and other recreation. HARRISBURG, Sept. 14 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano is encouraging local pre-apprenticeship programs to apply for state grants of up to $250,000 as part of a $2.5 million Schools-to-Work Program from the state Department of Labor & Industry. “Students pursuing post-secondary education face costs that are exorbitant and frankly unmanageable,” Pisciottano said. “It’s vital that we exhaust all opportunities to ease these burdens and ensure our workforce is equipped with skills that will accelerate Allegheny County’s economy.” Pisciottano highlighted the fact that the Community College of Allegheny County received more than $188,000 through the program earlier this year, enabling an additional 75 area high school students to gain manufacturing industry experience. HARRISBURG, July 13 – Rep. Nick Pisciottano has introduced legislation to defend workers and punish corporations that are infringing on workers’ rights to collectively bargain. “Federal and state law protect workers’ rights to join or form a union and collectively bargain, but for too long, businesses in this commonwealth have used unfair labor practices to deny workers their rights at the same time as collecting state subsidies or tax credits,” Pisciottano said. “It is unacceptable for the state to subsidize businesses that break the law.” The first bill would prohibit businesses that operate in Pennsylvania from taking tax deductions for expenses incurred in opposing unionization efforts of their workers. The second bill would amend the tax code to prohibit state agencies from awarding tax credits to businesses that are found guilty of federal or state labor violations in the past 10 years. Pisciottano said these bills would help enforce existing labor laws by preventing businesses from adopting union-busting practices, allowing workers to decide, without undue influence, whether they want to form or join a union. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, introduced the Stop Price Fixing Act , new legislation designed to enhance the ability of the state attorney general to prosecute individuals and businesses that collude to artificially raise the prices of Pennsylvania goods. “Prices continue to climb and working Pennsylvanians are facing overwhelming financial pressure all while corporations are reporting record profits,” Pisciottano said. “It’s clear that this pressure doesn’t stem from just inflation, it is sadly the result of bad actors using price volatility as an excuse to pad their bottom line at the expense of working families.” Pisciottano highlighted that price fixing cases are currently far too difficult to prosecute, citing the dire need to pass the Stop Price Fixing Act and provide the attorney general with the necessary tools to enforce price-fixing laws.
