Montgomery County House Democrats Announce $5.75M for Child Advocacy Center

(Oct 28, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Oct. 28 – Pennsylvania House Democrats in Montgomery County are congratulating the Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County for being awarded $5.75 million to build its Child Advocacy and Training Center. In a joint letter to Gov. Tom Wolf, members of the Montgomery County House Democratic Delegation shared that “Child abuse is a growing public health crisis that requires urgent intervention and response. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this issue significantly, placing an intense strain on our community’s most vulnerable members. The child advocacy center model is an evidence-based approach that has been found to provide a faster healing process for the child, more fluid collaboration between all professionals, and more effective and streamlined investigations. By providing on-site medical and mental health services, the facility would also be removing barriers to make care more accessible and equitable, as well as improving overall physical and mental health outcomes for children and their caregivers.” The Montgomery County legislators, including Reps. Matt Bradford, Tim Briggs, Joe Ciresi, Mary Jo Daley, Pam DeLissio, Nancy Guenst, Liz Hanbidge, Steve Malagari, Napoleon Nelson, Ben Sanchez, Greg Vitali, and Joe Webster, worked with the Wolf administration to help deliver the funds, which originate from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program . Webster introduces legislation aimed at strengthening school boards

(Sep 22, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 22 – State Rep. Joe Webster, D-Montgomery, is introducing a package of legislation that would ensure school board members continue to expand their capacity to meet the needs of students across Pennsylvania. Webster’s first bill would increase the number of required training hours for new school board members, from five to 14. Training for reelected school board members, moreover, would be increased from three hours per term to four. The training would include topics such as instruction, fiscal management and operations. “The better informed our school board members are in their decision making,” Webster said, “the more they can ensure our schools are providing the best education possible – while being fiscally sound.” Webster also is introducing a bill that would allow school board members to enroll tuition-free at any institution within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in specified courses that have a connection to their role and responsibilities as school board members. “It is important that we give school board members the ability to learn and refine the required skills of their role,” Webster said. The final bill among the three-bill package would allow school board members to be compensated for their work, subject to the approval of the board itself. Per the bill, any salary approved by the school board would be equal to the compensation limits for an individual locally Read more

Ciresi, Webster introduce legislation to designate a part of Trappe’s Main Street in honor of State Trooper Branden T. Sisca

(Aug 24, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Aug. 24 – State Reps. Joe Ciresi and Joe Webster, both D-Montgomery County, have introduced legislation to rename a portion of State Route 4031 in Trappe Borough in honor of Branden T. Sisca, a Trappe resident and one of two troopers struck and killed by a drunk driver earlier this year. House Bill 2786 would designate part of the route – also known as Main Street – as the Trooper Branden T. Sisca Memorial Highway. Sisca, 29, and another trooper, Martin F. Mack III, were on duty when they were struck and killed by a drunk driver along a section of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia. Trooper Sisca served on the Pennsylvania State Police for 13 months. The governor ordered all flags flown at half-staff in honor of both Sisca and Mack. “The death of State Trooper Branden T. Sisca was a terrible loss for the Trappe community and the commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” Ciresi said. “As both a volunteer firefighter and a state trooper, Trooper Sisca dedicated his life to protecting Pennsylvanians, some he had known all his life, others strangers. To both, his commitment was total. We’ve chosen to rename the section of Main Street after him because it would be close to the Trappe Fire Company where he volunteered for close to half of his life, and this designation would serve as a reminder of his selfless service and sacrifice.” Born in Norristown on June 23, 1992, State Trooper Sisca and his family were residents of Read more
