Kinsey issues statement on leaked message about Roe v. Wade possibly being overturned

HARRISBURG, May 3 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., issued a statement on the leaked message that the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade. “As a father of daughters, I don’t want the government to legislate what my daughters or any woman can or can’t do with her body,” Kinsey said. “As Republicans have made attempts to pass anti-abortion legislation in the past, I have stood firm in protecting a woman’s right to choose. PLBC introduces resolution for National Minority Health Month in PA

HARRISBURG, April 13 – State Rep. Donna Bullock, chair of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, along with PLBC members Reps. Stephen Kinsey, Patty Kim and Manuel Guzman, introduced a resolution that would recognize April 2022 as National Minority Health Month in Pennsylvania. The resolution was spurred by National Minority Health Week, which was inspired by the creation of National Negro Health Week in 1915 by Booker T. Washington and the U.S. Public Health Service. The focus was to improve the overall health status of Black Americans and to encourage Black professionals to join the medical field. National Negro Health Week then grew into the National Negro Health Movement to educate the public about continuing health disparities year-round. The U.S. Public Health Service then published National Negro Health News to update on activities of the movement and publish reports on Black health in America. The theme for 2022 is Give Your Community a Boost, which supports the CDC’s recommendation of the Covid-19 vaccine and booster shot as a means to combat the global pandemic. “Minorities are significantly more at risk for both terminal and treatable illnesses,” Bullock said. “But because many do not have access to affordable health care or insurance, the life-saving power of early detection by a primary care physician is hardly ever obtainable. Kinsey excited to see more than $2 million awarded to Albert Einstein Medical Center

HARRISBURG, March 24 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey announced today that Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia has been awarded more than $2.06 million from Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration, which this week detailed a $225 million appropriation to support the health care workforce needs of hospitals and behavioral health providers statewide. Kinsey, D-Phila., who’s legislative district is home to Albert Einstein Medical Center, said he is excited to see funds going to help the medical center’s workforce. “Our nurses and health care workers have faced insurmountable workloads during the COVID-19 pandemic; they’re understaffed, overworked and worn-out,” Kinsey said. “I applaud the governor’s effort in helping alleviate some of the stress that has been placed on our health care workers.” Kinsey continued, “I am excited to see a good portion of these funds being awarded in our district! Stephen Kinsey, Isabella Fitzgerald and Darisha Parker, all D-Phila., joined legislative colleagues, Philadelphia police, state police, the City of Philadelphia, the District Attorney’s Office, Philadelphia Sherriff’s Office, grassroot organizations and members of the Northwest Community last evening at Daniel E. Rumph II Recreation Center for a new gun violence initiative called “Third Thursday.” The group gathered and distributed service and support information to families impacted by gun violence throughout the community. Kinsey, colleagues hold three public safety meetings

PHILADELPHIA, March 17 – State Reps. Stephen Kinsey, Isabella Fitzgerald and Darisha Parker, all D-Phila., held a series of public safety meetings earlier this week throughout various parts of northwest Philadelphia. In attendance were partners who have agreed to support the elected officials in their new “Third Thursday” public safety project that will address the gun violence epidemic in Philadelphia. These partners include: the Philadelphia Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office, Philadelphia’s Office of Policy & Strategic Initiative for Criminal Justice & Public Safety, the Philadelphia Chapter of the NAACP and local grassroot organizations. At the meetings, which were held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, members of the community were present and shared ideas for solutions to gun violence and ways to improve quality of life for the residents of the community. “It is important for us as elected officials to listen to members of our communities and to show action. PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 18 – In an effort to ensure the safest and strongest neighborhoods for northwest Philadelphia residents, state Reps. Bi-Partisan Caucus holds first ever Zoom forum to discuss governor’s budget

HARRISBURG, Feb. 14 – The PA House Bi-Partisan Caucus held a forum Friday where the co-chairs, state Reps. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., and Greg Rothman, R-Cumberland, were joined by 45 other PA House members and three presidents of PA State System of Higher Education universities to discuss Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2022-23 budget proposal. The governor’s plan would invest $75 million for the operations of PASSHE. The three presidents included Dr. Christopher Fiorentino, West Chester University; Kenneth Long, East Stroudsburg University; and Dr. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, Penn West University. Penn West is the PASSHE chancellor’s integration plan that would make California University of PA, Clarion University and Edinboro University one institution. Kinsey announces $1.75 million in redevelopment funding for Northwest Philadelphia

HARRISBURG, Dec. 6 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., today announced $1.75 million in state grants were awarded to Northwest Philadelphia for redevelopment projects. WES Corp. is a minority-run mental health care organization located in the Logan section of Philadelphia that provides mental health services to thousands of residents across the city. WES Corp. will use the funds it receives to acquire and rehabilitate the Windrim facility by constructing administrative support offices and additional parking. The project will yield a state-of-the-art health care facility/business service hub and headquarters for WES Corp. “I am very excited to see this funding go to WES Corporation to improve the overall complex,” Kinsey said. “It is important that our health care facilities are in the best condition possible for workers and patients.” Work will include renovation of vacant 33,000-square-foot building to provide corporate, health care & physician offices for expanded behavioral health services, and state-licensed outpatient mental health clinics and programs.
