FOLSOM, Sept. 24 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced that Nether Providence and Ridley townships were each awarded grants to support recreation projects in the 161 st District. The grants were awarded through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ 2020 Community Conservation Partnerships Program. “Parks and recreation areas are so important to quality of life for our residents. I congratulate the townships on these grants, which will help them make improvements and give our community members great places to play,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. Nether Providence Township was awarded $127,100 for further development of Gouley Park, including construction of a pedestrian walkway and stormwater management measures, installation of play equipment, landscaping and ADA access improvements. Ridley Township was awarded $100,000 for rehabilitation of Nall Field, including renovation of the ballfields, construction of a parking area, pedestrian walkway, dugouts, stormwater management measures, and installation of batting cages, ADA access improvements and more. Leanne Krueger will host a virtual workshop focused on emergency preparedness at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22. “September is National Preparedness Month, and I’m pleased to offer this event to help community members learn how they can be prepared for emergencies and disasters of all kinds,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “No one likes to think that an emergency or disaster will affect them. But being prepared can provide peace of mind and equip residents with valuable knowledge in case the unthinkable does happen.” The virtual workshop will include guest speakers from the American Red Cross. FOLSOM, Aug. 17 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced today that state grants were awarded to Brookhaven and the Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority in Aston to help with vital sewer projects. The grants, through the PA Small Water and Sewer grant program, were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority today. “Keeping critical infrastructure, such as sanitary sewer lines, in good shape is important for the health of our communities,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “I’m pleased that these grants were awarded to help fund necessary repairs and improvements in Brookhaven and Aston Township .” Brookhaven Borough was awarded $406,835 to help replace 580 linear feet of sanitary sewer line, in an area where a defective sanitary sewer main has resulted in chronic backup conditions. The Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority was awarded two grants: $170,358 will help repair sewer lines at 23 locations in Aston and Chester townships. $108,795 will help replace sewer lines at 13 locations in Aston and Chester townships . HARRISBURG, Aug. 13 — State Reps. Melissa Shusterman and Leanne Krueger have introduced legislation to establish a $100 million COVID-19 Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program. Their legislation, H.B. 2739 , would allocate funds from COVID-19 restricted receipts to the Department of Community and Economic Development to fund grants to be distributed to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations statewide. “Between shutdowns, stay-at-home-orders and businesses now operating at a limited capacity, nonprofits missed out on opportunities to host annual fundraisers that they typically depend on to stay afloat,” Shusterman said. “We need to help them survive this difficult time because many people depend on nonprofits for their own survival. Whether they’re connecting individuals in need with housing, employment opportunities, food or health services, we cannot turn our backs on those most vulnerable to the economic effects of COVID-19.” “Nonprofit organizations play such a vital role in our communities, and their work is even more critical during this health crisis,” Krueger said. “Nonprofits help connect families to resources they need during difficult times, offer us opportunities to experience arts and culture, and so much more.
