Burns: $80,000 grant will curb underage drinking

(Sep 04, 2020)

EBENSBURG, Sept. 4 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that two local alcohol education programs have been selected to receive a combined $80,000 in state grants. “These programs will help educate area youth on the dangers of underage drinking and continue to promote good moral values in our communities,” Burns said. “This is just another example of how I’m working to support youth programs to prepare our children for the world ahead of them.” The state grants awarded locally include: $40,000 to the Hiram G. Andrews Center for alcohol education programing for individuals with special or diverse needs. $40,000 to Saint Francis University to continue its INTERCEPT program and Alcohol-Wise, conduct Core and e-CHUG surveys, conduct university patrols, and provide training for university police. The maximum award for each two-year grant is $40,000. Since taking office, Burns has helped secure more than $200 million in state and federal funds for Cambria County programs and projects, from water and sewer infrastructure, to social programs and anti-bullying efforts.
