BUCKS COUNTY, Nov. 19 – State Rep. Perry Warren, D-Bucks, and State Sen. Steve Santarsiero, D-Bucks, announced today that Newtown and Yardley boroughs have been awarded $75,000 and $573,689, respectively, for improvement projects. The project in Newtown to stabilize the banks of “Old Skunky”, a Newtown Creek tributary, will include regrading 220 feet of bank and planting native trees, shrubs and grasses. It is projected to take two years to complete. “I served on Newtown Borough Council for seven years. Maintaining water quality, sediment from Old Skunky and MS-4 funding and compliance are and were continual challenges,” said Rep. Warren. “Borough Council leaders pursued, and Newtown Borough was awarded, this Watershed Restoration Grant for Old Skunky Streambank Restoration. HARRISBURG, March 29 – Responding to the Capitol insurrection in January and the signing of new restrictions on voting rights last week in Georgia, House Democrats are taking action to protect American democracy. Today, a website was launched that summarizes policy proposals to defend democracy as well as links to more information and the ability for people to quickly email their elected officials, noting their support of the bills. The House Democratic Caucus has been working on these proposals since a House Democratic Policy Committee Hearing in January, when members were briefed by legal scholars, hate crimes experts and members of Congress on the language of false conspiracy and election fraud being used to undermine democracy. HARRISBURG, Jan. 26 – State Rep. Perry Warren, D-Bucks, announced that his bill, which would establish a Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force to help reduce the cost of flood insurance premiums, was approved unanimously today by the House Insurance Committee. Warren’s H.B. 70 would address this financial issue which resulted from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s redrawing of its flood maps. When FEMA in recent years revised its flood maps to require many more properties in Pennsylvania to hold flood insurance, its goal was to mitigate the financial harm and help lessen the emotional devastation caused by floods. The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks will receive $1 million for its Manor Park Landfill project and Morrisville Borough will receive $500,000 for a project at Patriots Park at Historic Summerseat. The Manor Park Landfill project involves remediating and redeveloping a 12.96-acre vacant Brownfield site for new construction of a 70,000 square foot site for commercial use.
