Most notably, his legislation which would have raised the legal age to purchase an assault riffle from 18 to 21 was gutted by the House Judiciary Committee. Pa. state Rep. Mike Schlossberg knows there are huge challenges for counties facing behavioral health related issues. In 2011, about $81 million was cut from county mental health service providers. This year, he says that the state is in a position to bring that funding back to those same levels. With a multi-billion dollar surplus, he is proposing to add $100 million to mental health line items to make up for this lost time and funding. Read more

Unless police see someone light a firework’s fuse, they can’t take any action against them for detonating fireworks illegally, and aren’t allowed to confiscate any unlit fireworks, Schweyer said. The bill in the Senate would allow officers to confiscate fireworks. Read more

As Pennsylvania experiences a growing mental health crisis, Pa. state Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski supports additional funding and resources for mental health services through the HOPE for PA plan. Pashinksi, Democratic Chair of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, also says our farmers don't have the same access to mental health services as those in cities and to help remedy that, the Pa.
