Rep. Paul Takac July 26, 2023
HARRISBURG, July 26 – After today’s news conference with PennEnvironment Research and Policy Center to discuss PennEnvironment’s recent report on electric vehicles, state Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, highlighted how electric vehicles can save the environment and produce savings for state and local governments.
“PennEnvironment’s report refutes the common assumption that choosing the cleaner energy option costs more,” Takac said. “In fact, it’s actually more expensive to do nothing and to keep buying polluting, gasoline-powered vehicles.”
The report outlines how state government and local governments can save taxpayers in Pennsylvania more than $360 million by purchasing EVs, as opposed to gasoline-fueled and diesel-fueled vehicles for their light-duty fleets.
“The shift to EVs isn’t just climate-saving, it’s cost saving,” Takac said. “As elected officials, we often have to make difficult decisions. The shift to EVs is not one of them.”
