Human rights should be universal, inherent to everyone, and inalienable - meaning that no one can take them away, without discrimination. Unfortunately, human rights are being violated every time an African American woman, man, or child is being sent home or denied access to a job, a school, or an event based on how they choose to naturally wear their hair. The CROWN Act would explicitly prohibit discrimination based on natural hair as a form of race discrimination.
We can no longer sit back and allow race-based hair discrimination or any other discrimination to persist. Therefore, I urge you to support The CROWN Act, so that it can be brought to the House floor for a vote, and we can put an end to unfair race-based practices that deny basic human rights to everyone.
We all should be free to make our own choices regarding how we choose to wear our hair, without the fear of reprisal.
Sincerely,
