Committee tours mine reclamation sites, learns about difficulties

(Sep 26, 2022)

“Pennsylvania is proud of its mining history, in fact, it’s what helped shaped many parts of the state,” Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski said. “Mining helped fuel everything from our state’s numerous industries to the small towns that formed and grew because of the jobs mines created. However, as we’ve seen in 45 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties that have abandoned mine lands, nothing improves unless organizations, working in lockstep with the government, address the issues created by abandoned mines. That’s why this work is so important, it transforms a problem into a resource.” Read more

Pashinski, O’Mara introduce legislation with bipartisan support to reform hospital closure process

(Sep 23, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 23 – State Reps. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, and Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, introduced legislation on Friday that would bring more accountability to the process of hospital closures to ensure that Pennsylvanians can receive uninterrupted care and that hospital systems must honor their duty to their patients, staff, and the communities they serve. The legislation is a companion to State Sen. Carolyn Comitta’s S.B. 1324 , introduced earlier this month. “When hospitals and health care facilities close or drastically reduce services with little or no notice, their patients, doctors, nurses, and staff suffer,” Pashinski said. “We’re witnessing this firsthand in Luzerne County with the sudden announcement that First Hospital intends to close by October without any apparent plans in place to provide for continuity of care or help their staff transition. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation would be a significant step toward ensuring health care facilities planning to close provide local communities and government agencies the time, information, and opportunity they need to adequately address these significant impacts and plan for related challenges.” “Pennsylvania law needs to improve how it handles for-profit health systems, especially during shutdowns,” O’Mara said. “We need more time to study to find out the impact that closures have on communities, as well as on what Read more

Pashinski announces $100,000 grant to rehabilitate section of D&L Trail

(Sep 20, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 20 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, today announced the approval by the Commonwealth Financing Authority of a $100,000 Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant to the Anthracite Scenic Trails Association for the Oliver Mills to Mountain Top D&L Trail segment. “Northeast PA and Pennsylvania are blessed with some of the most beautiful and bountiful natural landscapes anywhere,” Pashinski said. “Not only do these places provide excellent hunting and angling, as well as outdoor recreation opportunities, they also generate critical dollars for our communities. Thank you to Governor Wolf and his administration for recognizing the importance of the D&L Trail to our region’s beauty, economy, and quality of life.” Pashinski said the association will use the funds to rehabilitate 4.8 miles of the existing Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor trail located in Fairview and Hanover townships and Laurel Borough, Luzerne County. These CFA funds are in addition to the recently announced $826,000 investment from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnerships Program toward the Development of the D&L Trail in Fairview and Hanover townships and Laurel Run Borough. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages. The CFA holds Read more

House Democrats host news conference to address diaper needs in state

(Sep 19, 2022)

“Most public resources, such as SNAP and WIC, do not allow families to buy diapers with the money they are provided. It’s important that we recognize this critical problem facing Pennsylvania’s families with small children and adults with incontinence,” Pashinski said. “The lack of access to a clean, consistent supply of disposable undergarments is a serious health risk for many people, and we must do everything we can to address their needs.” Read more

(Sep 14, 2022)

At a Capitol press conference on strengthening election integrity, Pa. state Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski says we need to make voting easier, not raise additional barriers for Pennsylvanians. Pashinski urges passage of pre-canvassing legislation & supports free and fair elections

(Sep 14, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 14 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski joined House Democratic Policy Chairman Ryan Bizzarro, House Minority Leader Joanna McClinton and other House Democrats to support clean pre-canvassing legislation and urge support of free and fair elections. “Despite what some in the majority party would want you to believe, our elections are safe and secure and the things we want to do would only make them better,” said Pashinski, D-Luzerne. “By pre-canvassing mail-in ballots, it gives the time needed for counties to be able to process the ballots on election night and give all of us the results faster. This is something counties have been asking for and yet it has been tied up, thanks to the leaders on the other side of the aisle.” According to Pashinski, pre-canvassing involves election officials preparing mail-in and absentee ballots for counting. Currently, counties cannot start that process until 7 a.m. on Election Day and due to the increased number of these ballots being utilized in the November 2020 and May 2022 elections, Pennsylvanians have had to wait several days for final election results. Several House Democrats have introduced standalone legislation that would allow counties to pre-canvass mail-in and absentee ballots earlier – including Pashinski’s H.B. 982 . These have been referred to the House State Government Committee but have been held up by House Republican leadership. Pashinski said the lack of Read more

Once completed, the city of Wilkes-Barre will be an even more lively, shoppable, and livable place to live, work and visit.” Pashinski said the funding will be used to help create a mixed-use, five-story, urban development center complete with a 110-room hotel, rooftop bar and restaurant, breakfast cafe, and conference space. The center will showcase a panoramic view of the river, mountains and city skyline from the rooftop bar and restaurant.
