Kyle Mullins and Thom Welby, both D-Lackawanna, today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has awarded nearly $2.35 million in grant funding to several park rehabilitation projects in the 112th and 113th legislative districts. “Our residents deserve safe, clean and accessible parks and other outdoor recreational opportunities,” Mullins said. “I am grateful for the state’s recognition of the importance of enhancing our wonderful community assets. Decades of underfunding our infrastructure, of relying upon a patchwork and reactive approaches has slammed into reality. Our nation faces unprecedented extreme weather events and other challenges from coast to coast which threaten our well-being. Thus far, the response of Congress has been inadequate. Where the need for new infrastructure investment is $5 trillion or more, the Senate’s “Infrastructure and Jobs Act” proposes just $550 billion of new spending. While we support this, it lands far short of the mark. We, the undersigned, are rallying our citizens to demand that Congress respond to this crisis in a way which is appropriate: The establishment of a large, $5 trillion National Infrastructure Bank (NIB), as outlined in HR 3339, which is before the current session of Congress. This $5 trillion public bank does not rely upon the appropriations process. It does not require new federal taxes and will not increase our deficit. By repurposing existing Treasury debt, as was done previously in U.S. history, it will finance everything we need, and quickly. We will be able to build multiple layers at the same time, such as water, sewer, rail, power, all of which inhabit the same space. Infrastructure requires concerted federal action. We need a new power grid, a new high speed rail system, and large-scale water projects like those last erected under President Franklin Roosevelt. HARRISBURG, April 21 – State Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, today announced the award of $800,000 in state funding for infrastructure, parks and recreation projects within the 112 th Legislative District. “These are all important infrastructure investments to not only ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists, but also to improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors of our great communities,” Mullins said. “I was proud to advocate for these funds in partnership with my area legislative colleagues and local officials who understand the importance of aggressively pursuing state funding for the benefit of our area.” Mullins said the following local projects are receiving state funding through several programs from the Commonwealth Finance Authority: Multimodal Transportation Fund: Archbald Borough - $100,000 toward a multi-phase project to improve pedestrian and motorist safety via new sidewalks, streetlighting and curbs along a busy stretch of North Main Street. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, today announced that more than $46 million in federal funding will be received by school districts within the 112th District to aid in returning students safely to the classroom. "It's been over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic pulled students out of the classroom and into virtual learning programs.
