Rep. Joanna E. McClinton July 22, 2021 | 4:21 PM
In her continued fight to end hunger, House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton joined St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and other local organizations today to connect 200 boxes of free food with 86 families.
“Food insecurity remains a major issue – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware. “This collaborative effort is the latest example of our commitment to bring nutritious meals to our neighbors. I can’t thank our community partners and student volunteers from Sayre Health Center enough for coming together to help feed our families.”
The group distributed fresh fruits, vegetables and meats provided by Caring for Friends at the park at 60th Street and Baltimore Avenue in the Cobbs Creek section of the city.
“We’ve made it a top priority to prevent hunger in our Philadelphia community and ensure people aren’t left worrying about where they’re going to get their next meal, or how they’re going to feed their family,” said Erick Woods, associate campus minister for Ignatian Service at St. Joseph's Preparatory School. “We are thankful to work with local leaders like Representative McClinton and her office to make critical events like this possible.”
Other organizations – including Sayre Health Center who continues offering the COVID-19 vaccine – were also on hand giving out resources and information about various state and local services and assistance programs available to residents.
Just last year, McClinton worked with St. Joseph’s Prep to distribute more than 250 food boxes to people in southwest Philadelphia.
