CORAOPOLIS, Dec. 14 – Four local law enforcement agencies were approved to receive a total of $346,588 in federal funding to improve safety, announced state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny. The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency awarded funding to the following: $178,786 to Carnegie Borough for Central Square RMS licenses, rugged tablets, body-worn cameras, patrol car dash cameras, surveillance cameras and license plate readers. $81,952 to Kennedy Township for in-car cameras, license plate readers and a server upgrade. $50,000 to McKees Rocks for a license plate reader system and community surveillance cameras. $35,850 to Bridgeville Borough for in-car camera equipment. “Cameras, license plate readers and other equipment are valuable resources for officers who work hard every day to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Kulik said. “I’m pleased to see investments in technology and equipment that will support our local police departments in their efforts to protect and serve our communities.” Act 54 of 2022 established the Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program and directed PCCD to administer $135 million in federal American Rescue Plan funding as grants to law enforcement agencies to implement information technology improvements, purchase or upgrade equipment, cover nontraditional law enforcement personnel costs, support retention and recruitment Read more
CORAOPOLIS, Nov. 21 – Rosedale Technical College in Kennedy Township was selected for a $1 million state grant, state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, announced today. Kulik said the funding will be used to build out a second-level space that will require architectural and construction designs for the addition of approximately 10 classrooms. “Rosedale Technical College has been committed to providing students with quality education and hands-on training in the trades, as well as offering support for mentoring and job placement programs,” Kulik said. “The addition of more classrooms will provide more space for students to hone the necessary skills for their respective fields. CORAOPOLIS, Nov. 15 – Improvements to a raw water intake station in Robinson Township and a children’s playground in Coraopolis will receive a combined $600,000 in state grants, announced state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny. Kulik said a $500,000 grant was awarded to the Municipal Authority of the Township of Robinson to rehabilitate a raw water intake station. The project will replace pumps, valves and piping, and install a new backup generator. Other improvements include upgrades to the electrical components, replacing chemical feed lines and cleaning and painting the building. The Char-West Council of Governments will use a $150,000 grant for improvements to the Coraopolis Ridge Avenue Tot Lot, which includes removing the existing playground equipment, mulch surfacing, and plastic borders, and installing new playground equipment and a rubberized playground surface. “The tot lot has given many children in Coraopolis a fun and safe place to play over the years,” Kulik said. “The funding awarded today will help to provide improvements that bring the playground up to date, including making it ADA-compliant, so that everyone will have access to the play area.” The grants are funded by the Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund , which is financed by gaming activity in the county. CORAOPOLIS, Oct. 31 – Friends of Pittsburgh Professional Soccer secured $2 million in state funding for the next phase of development for the Sports and Athletic Complex at Montour Junction, announced state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny. “It has been a long road in transforming Montour Junction from a former railyard into a premier place for young athletes and the community to access athletic fields for various sports,” Kulik said. “The state funding awarded today will help bridge the gap as the project enters its fourth phase and connect it with the previous phases of development.” Kulik said the project includes the construction of seven outdoor soccer fields and amenities, including bleachers, a concession stand, restrooms and parking areas. The fourth phase of development also includes the Allegheny Health Network Sports Medicine facility. CORAOPOLIS, Sept. 20 – State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, today announced Neville Township will receive $220,000 in state funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for the development of Neville Island Riverfront Park. “This park would be a wonderful addition to Neville Township that provides a dedicated space for boaters to access the Ohio River,” Kulik said. “This project will build on efforts to enhance the area and bring more recreational opportunities to the island.” Kulik said the project includes remediation for the site and construction of recreational facilities at Riverfront Park along the banks of the Ohio River Back Channel. Site amenities planned for the park include a concrete boat ramp with a dock, gravel access drive and a parking area. The project also includes the installation and implementation of stormwater management best practices to address stormwater quantity and quality, along with revegetation of disturbed pervious surfaces by planting native groundcover, trees and shrubs. CORAOPOLIS, July 13 – State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, announced a total of $573,305 in grant funding for traffic signal improvements in Neville Township and Scott Township. “The investments in these communities will help ensure safety for both drivers and pedestrians,” said Kulik. “I’m proud to have helped secure funding for upgrades that will help to improve traffic flow and access for residents and visitors.” The grants were awarded to the following projects: $278,058 to Neville Township for upgrades to the traffic signal at Grand Avenue and Gibson Lane. $295,247 to Scott Township for replacement of the traffic signal at Cochran Road and Robinwood Drive. Neville Township and Scott Township were among 70 municipalities across the state that received over $37.8 million for traffic signal upgrades through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s “Green Light-Go” program. The funding cam be used on existing traffic signals to install LED technology, perform operations such as retiming or monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies. CORAOPOLIS, March 14 – Local fire and emergency medical service companies may be eligible for low-interest loans for vehicles, facilities and equipment, according to state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny. “This program is an important resource for first responders locally and across the commonwealth at a time when it’s been difficult for companies to raise funding to help them continue their efforts in answering the call,” Kulik said. “I encourage fire and EMS companies to look into this loan program to see if it could be beneficial to their operations.” The Fire and Emergency Medical Services Loan Program is open for applications on a rolling basis. The Office of the State Fire Commissioner provides loans ranging from $25,000 to $400,000 at a fixed 2% interest rate with varying repayment terms to eligible fire and EMS companies. A single fire or EMS company is not eligible for more than three loans at a time. Since the establishment of the FEMSLP, it has provided more than $500 million in loans. Last year, voters approved an expansion of the program to make paid and combination companies eligible for the loans in addition to volunteer fire and EMS companies. CORAOPOLIS, March 9 – A $154,493 grant will fund improvements to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie, announced state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny. Kulik said the funding will finance half of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library’s project to convert unimproved space on a partial floor into a meeting program space. “The Carnegie Carnegie has had a rich history as the “beacon on the hill” since 1901, but its impact goes beyond books and learning,” Kulik said. “The library is a welcoming place for the community to gather for entertainment, job fairs, art shows and so much more. This funding will provide a boost improving a space for more people to enjoy for years to come.” Nearly $5.3 million in Keystone Grants for Public Library Facilities were awarded to 21 public libraries across the state, including the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.
