HARRISBURG, Oct. 15 – State Rep. Frank Burns, announced the awarding of three grants totaling $13,880 to local entities from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The grants are from DEP's Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program to help with the cost of developing and operating local household hazardous waste collection events. The grants reimburse 50 percent of the cost of the events.
"This funding helps our communities get rid of hazardous household chemicals and other difficult-to-throw away items for a cleaner, greener environment," Burns said.
The Pennsylvania Resources Council in Cambria County received $9,313 for its household chemical recycling event at Concurrent Technologies Corp., Johnstown, in May.
The Cambria County Solid Waste Authority received $3,497 for its collection events from July 1 through Dec.31, 2013.
Keep PA Beautiful, Cambria County, received $1,070 for its appliance and tire collection events in Croyle and Cambria townships and Patton from April 26 through May 10.
